The Decision of the Consumer Arbitration Committee on ‘Refund of Private School Fee’ During the Pandemic

Kayseri Provincial Consumer Arbitration Committee partially accepted the request of a parent. The parent requested the refund of the private school fee of the last academic year, and the Committee decided to return 7 thousand 579 lira 20 kurus to the consumer for her child’s absence from school during the pandemic.

A citizen living in Kayseri requested the fee she paid to the private school, where her child was enrolled, to be returned to her for the days after March 15, 2020.

The parent of the student, whose request was rejected by the school, applied to the Kayseri Consumer Arbitration Committee on May 18th. The school on the other hand, stated that after the formal education was interrupted, schools were not closed, distance education continued and it was also a part of the remedial education.The school’s defensestated that the expenses such as food, natural gas, electricity and water will be deducted from the registration fees that will be received next year and the parent’s complaint was asked to be rejected.As a result of their investigations, the committee partially accepted the request of the parent, who wanted 9 thousand liras to be paid and decided to return 7 thousand 579 lira 20 kurus.
